Barite
Barite in Oil and Gas Applications
SPARTON® is our API certified drilling mud grade barite, a product that has achieved recognition in North American oil & gas drilling markets, as well as overseas.
TOP REASONS TO BUY SPARTON® BARITE:
- High purity barites with the characteristic high specific gravity (4.2 - 4.4g/cm3)
- Processing & quality control expertise developed over six decades of running our barite operation.
Our SPARTON barite is API certified as a guarantee of top quality and performance. SPARTON® high purity and high specific gravity barite provides excellent corrosion resistance, as well as low abrasion. Therefore, our high quality barite weighting agent will not damage drilling equipment, and will not react with the drilling fluid.
Sparton®41
This product will have a minimum specific gravity of 4.1 vs. the current API specification of 4.2. Sparton®41, will comply with the API specification in all other parameters.
We are introducing this product in response to the depleting reserve base for domestic North American supply of 4.2 ore. The North American barite industry has estimated that by using 4.1 barite in drilling fluid applications, the existing reserve base may be extended to twice the current reserve levels. The current reserve levels are estimated at 7 years or less. By offering this 4.1 product, it will allow the industry the time to develop the infrastructure to develop known but undeveloped mines and ensure the future availability of barite for the drilling fluids industry for many years to come.
Technical studies show that the increase in solids in most fluid applications is minimal with no adverse effects in solids content, rheological properties, API filtration and pH values . The solids content has been shown to be less than 2% volume difference in densities up to 18 lbs/gal.
We have posted additional information on our website which may be accessed at www.heemskirkcanada.com.
To ensure that the different S.G. products are easily distinguishable to the industry, our existing 4.2 SPARTON® will have no change to its current packaging, kraft paper with Red lettering. SPARTON®41 will be also packaged in a kraft paper bag, however it will marked with Black lettering on the body with an inversed black block with white lettering on the ends with large print indicating SPARTON®41.
